Spotlight: Hannah Harvey, Miss Metrolina 2024

Hometown: Statesville, NC

Current Schooling: I am cum laude graduate of Appalachian State University. While at Appalachian, I earned two degrees: a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and a Bachelor of Science in Secondary English Education. I am a proud second generation educator, and am in my fourth year of teaching elementary school.

What are your scholastic and/or career ambitions? I hope to complete my Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, earn a Doctoral degree in Curriculum and Instruction, and become a college professor in education so that I will be able to mentor and inspire future teachers.

Community Service Initiative (CSI): Global Game Changers

What are some objectives you have as a titleholder? This past year I was named the Inaugural National Ambassador for the free K-5 curriculum, Global Game Changers (GGC). With its superhero theme and service learning focus, students become one step closer to finding their unique abilities using the equation: My Talent + My Heart = My Superpower!® By utilizing this curriculum in my classroom I have witnessed my own students develop soft skills like adaptability, collaboration, communication, and empathy. I will meet with the state superintendent, Katherine Truitt, and explain how she can achieve her goals for students in the state of North Carolina by utilizing this standards-based, proven, and free curriculum, Global Game Changers.

What are some interesting facts about you? Had two pet llamas when I was a kid, School record holder for the 400 meter dash and 1600 meter run at North Iredell High School, While in college I gave over 250 free campus tours of Appalchian State University

What do you enjoy doing for fun? I love to travel and visit local coffee shops; being outdoors kayaking, hiking, and running; spending time with my family; reading science fiction novels
