Joey Augusta Paxton
Eighteen-year-old Joey Paxton from Charlotte sang and danced her way to the 1941 title. She competed as Miss North Carolina performing “Booglie Wooglie Piggy,” winning talent, swimsuit, a one time only audience applause award and becoming fourth runner-up to Miss America. She, like many other title holders, supported the military effort by selling war bonds.
