Maghen Wagner of Randleman, N.C., was crowned Miss Randolph County 2027 on Oct. 10, 2026, at Eastern Randolph High School in Ramseur.
Wagner takes the title with a community service initiative drawn from her own history and from what she found when she went looking for help close to home. Maghen’s Light of Hope: Mental Health & Suicide Awareness & Prevention runs on several tracks at once: a free mental health peer support group she hosts in Asheboro, advocacy for students in Randolph County Schools and help finding them the resources they need, and awareness events she has planned and hosted, among them a Suicide Summit, an Opioid Recovery Month Celebration and a Mental Health Art Walk.
“As a survivor of two suicide attempts, with little resources in my county; I knew it was my mission to advocate for those like me!” Wagner said.
Wagner is a senior at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, majoring in Social Work with a minor in Human Development and Family Studies. She plans to go on to a Master of Social Work and then licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, with the goal of becoming a pediatric therapist, and she already works as a behavioral health specialist for her peer support group. She is in her fourth year on the UNCG cheerleading team and is its head captain. For talent she performed an acro jazz dance to “Proud Mary,” a routine built around the tumbling and jumping she has done all her life as a cheerleader; her grandmother chose the song, and she says she dances it for her every time. Her initiative partners with the J&E Support Group.
The moment she names as the one she will never forget came at the Suicide Summit she helped organize, where she spoke as a lived-experience speaker. “We were all in a safe space, bonding together over shared experiences with mental health,” Wagner said. “I will never forget the room of people who all cried, laughed, and celebrated each other!”
She has held one previous title in the Miss America Opportunity, Miss Catawba Valley 2026.
Wagner will represent Randolph County at the Miss North Carolina competition in High Point in June 2027.
