Digital Spotlight interview with Ava Rose Craven
Q: Tell us a little about yourself!
A: I’m from Hampstead, NC. I am currently a sophomore at Topsail High School. After graduation, I plan to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to pursue my goal of becoming a pediatric nurse. As an aspiring pediatric nurse, I am passionate about giving care and making a positive impact on children’s health!
Q: What inspired your Community Service Initiative?
A: Etiquette is not only how to set a table or remember to say “please” and “thank you,” it’s a life skill essential for success. Through my Community Service Initiative, Etiquette Evolution, I encourage today’s youth to understand that etiquette is not “old-fashioned,” but rather a superpower. One that empowers them to live with confidence, poise, grace, kindness, and joy! My hope is that one day, those I’ve influenced will look back and say, “Hey, that was really useful,” whether in a professional setting, at a dining table, or in an academic environment!
Q: What talent did you perform at your local competition?
A: I performed a self-choreographed lyrical ballet routine to Whitney Houston’s I Have Nothing!
Q: Do you have any previous experience within the Miss America Opportunity?
A: This is my first title in the organization.
Q: What’s one fun fact about you?
A: I am trained in precision dance, the iconic ‘Rockette’ style, known for its sharp and bold movements.
Q: What’s your favorite way to spend a day off when you’re not competing or volunteering?
A: I enjoy taking time to recharge and listen to my mind and body. Whether it’s spending time with loved ones, going for a walk, practicing self-care, or just resting, these things help me stay balanced and refreshed.
Q: What’s your favorite way to stay #MissAmericaFit?
A: Currently, I take 10 hours of dance per week as a company member with Wilmington Conservatory of Fine Arts, with a focus on classical ballet. I enjoy at-home Pilates workouts, eating more whole foods, and going on walks daily. These are all an important part of my fitness and wellness routine, helping me stay active, balanced, and #MissAmericaFit.
Q: If you could give one piece of advice to a younger girl who looks up to you, what would it be?
A: “Be you. Being yourself is your greatest strength. Never compare yourself to others, because we are all fearfully and wonderfully made. You are beautiful just the way you are!”
Q: Where can people support your American Heart Association efforts?
A: Visit my Spotfund page to support my efforts and learn more about heart health awareness!
