Community Service Initiative (CSI): Bella’s Backpacks

What are some objectives you have as a titleholder? My CSI is Bella’s Backpacks, a program I founded in February 2 years ago. Bella’s Backpacks aims to help sexually abused and neglected children by packing 20 backpacks a month filled with care items these children might need while being moved out of these abusive situations. I partnered with the Dove House, a Child Advocacy Center, to provide these backpacks to children in a time of need so they can provide comfort and hope. I plan to expand Bella’s Backpacks statewide one day and one way I plan on doing so is by becoming a Non-profit organization. Being a non-profit will allow me to apply for grants which will help me sustain and expand the reach of Bella’s Backpacks. I also, plan to spread awareness of child abuse and prevention through my social media, visits to elementary schools, and partnerships with Child Advocacy Centers in the mountain region and beyond.

What are some interesting facts about you? I was a Carolina Princess for 6 years with the Miss NC Organization. I have walked in New York Fashion Week twice. I was a guest vocalist at the Lee Theatre in Salisbury, NC when I was 10 years old. I have danced on the Beauty and the Beast Stage at Universal Studios and danced in the Mickey’s Merry Christmas Parade in the Magic Kingdom. I am teaching myself to speak Italian so when I go to Italy someday, I can communicate with my distant relatives.

What do you enjoy doing for fun? I enjoy dancing, spending time with family and friends, baking/cooking, and volunteering in my community.
