Spotlight: Katie Brown, Miss Dunn 2024
Talent Category: Vocal
Previous MAO Titles: Spivey’s Corner ’22
Hometown: Fremont, NC
Current Schooling: In 2020 I graduated from Wayne Community College with an Associate in Arts and had plans to continue my education at a university to pursue a degree in psychology. Now, several years and one major career move later, I have returned to Wayne Community College in the Early Childhood Education program.
What are your scholastic and/or career ambitions? I am endlessly proud to be the Director of Stoney Creek Child Care Center where I work with more than 100 children throughout the year. I have a passion for children and their education, and I plan to continue mine at a university after completing my associate’s degree. In the future, I would like to continue working as Director and grow the three programs we have.
Community Service Initiative (CSI): End the Silence
What are some objectives you have as a titleholder? My Community Service Initiative is End the Silence which encourages honest conversations about mental health. My focus throughout my year will be empowering children to openly communicate about their feelings. I will be present in the schools of Harnett County, active in the community, and engaging on social media to work towards lowering the rate of suicide.
What are some interesting facts about you? I like to consider myself adventurous since I have been ziplining over crocodiles, to the top of the Empire State Building, and have performed on a cruise ship, but I am terrified of riding a bike!
What do you enjoy doing for fun? My favorite activity is without a doubt going fishing! I also enjoy going paddleboarding and kayaking with my best friend, trying out new recipes, and traveling.
