Karolyn Martin crowned Miss North Carolina 2022

06/27/2022 High Point, NC – Karolyn Martin, representing Metrolina in the Miss North Carolina Competition, was crowned Miss North Carolina 2022 in High Point this past Saturday. Martin promoted her social impact initiative of “#SelfKare: Eat to Success,” aiming to teach the community to eat in a way that fuels our minds and bodies to success while taking the focus off of weight and appearance. She performed “This is the Moment” in the talent competition. In addition to winning the crown, Martin received $21,000 in scholarships throughout the week’s competition and the opportunity to compete at the 101st Miss America Competition.

Miss North Carolina and Miss North Carolina’s Outstanding Teen 2022 Competitions Return to High Point, NC

04/01/2022 High Point, N.C. – The selection of the candidate who will compete in the Miss America and Miss America’s Outstanding Teen competitions will return to High Point, NC this summer. The Miss North Carolina Organization will host the two competitions June 23-25, 2022 at the High Point Theater with two preliminary nights of competition and culminate with the crowning of Miss North Carolina 2022 as well as Miss North Carolina’s Outstanding Teen 2022. Since 1937, the Miss North Carolina organization has recognized remarkable, intelligent and talented young women and the communities that have sponsored and supported them.

57 candidates from across North Carolina will not only compete for the two prestigious titles but also be awarded an array of academic scholarships. The organization, along with the North Carolina Education Scholarship Fund, have a goal of awarding over $125,000 in cash scholarships during the three-day competition.

“High Point played an integral part in the success of our 2021 competition,” noted Susan Williams, Executive Director of the MNCO. “Nancy Bowman and her team at the HPCVB have spent countless hours helping us plan the 2022 competitions and I’m thankful for their commitment to our mission. The Triad region has a long and rich history with the Miss North Carolina organization and we are excited to crown our good will ambassador here. ”

Adrienne Sulkey Appointed New Miss North Carolina Business Manager

02/23/2022 Raleigh, N.C. – The Miss North Carolina Organization is pleased to announce longtime Miss NC volunteer Adrienne Sulkey as the next Business Manager for the reigning Miss North Carolina. Sulkey will coordinate Miss North Carolina’s travel schedule and appearance schedule throughout the year.

No stranger to the Miss NC competition stage, Sulkey is a former Miss Garner (‘99), Miss Greensboro and 4th Runner Up to Miss NC 2000, Miss Western Piedmont and 1st Runner Up to Miss NC 2001), candidate hostess, as well as a Carolina Princess and Outstanding Teen committee member. Sulkey, a resident of Huntersville, will continue to serve as the MNCO’s HBCU outreach coordinator while business manager.

“I look at it as a great opportunity to get Miss NC out at the colleges and universities and to be more visible in ALL communities in NC,” noted Sulkey. “Being the Business Manager and Director of HBCU Recruitment will help the organization expand and bridge new relationships with our local colleges and universities, focusing on our Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUS) first.”

Williams and Clegg to Lead Miss NC Organization as Executive Director and Chairman

12/27/21 Raleigh, NC – The Miss North Carolina Organization’s Board of Directors have selected Susan Williams as the organization’s new Executive Director.

Williams, a native of Fayetteville, has been involved with the MNCO since 1977 when she served as Miss Spivey’s Corner in the Miss NC Competition. She formerly volunteered as Business Manager and Secretary for the MNCO and Judges Chair for the state competition. She also serves on the Cumberland County Board of Education.

“I, personally, want to thank Beth Knox for her 10 years of service to this organization as Executive Director,” noted Susan Williams. “My goal is to continue providing opportunities for young women in our state to further their academic and career goals.”

Additionally, David Clegg has been appointed Chairman of the Board for the Organization. David is no stranger to the Miss North Carolina and Miss America Organization having volunteered for more than 40 years. Clegg is a former Local Executive Director and currently serves as Vice Chair for the North Carolina Educational Scholarship Fund and President of the Sisterhood of Miss North Carolina, Inc. He also served as Assistant Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Commerce and Deputy Chairman of the North Carolina Employment Security Commission.

Williams and Clegg will lead the volunteer organization towards the 84th Miss North Carolina Competition taking place this June in High Point, NC. The organization, along with the North Carolina Educational Scholarship Fund, has a goal to provide over $100,000 in scholarship assistance to candidates in the competition.
