Digital Spotlight interview with Tiffany Rush

Q: Tell us a little about yourself!
A: I’m from Asheboro, NC. I was the Valedictorian of Randolph Early College High School in 2017. I earned an Associate of Science Degree from Randolph Community College in 2017, and I was a Cum Laude Graduate with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology with a Concentration in Secondary Education from Appalachian State University in 2020. I am a Current High School Science Teacher planning to further my education in the near future. As someone with a variety and vast amount of interests, there are many directions my ambitions could take me. I would like to continue serving students in some capacity while also finding ways to pursue personal opportunities in the performing industry. I plan to further my education in the near future, but am still researching different opportunities and avenues before jumping in.

Q: What inspired your Community Service Initiative?
A: “The X Factor Initiative” began with my personal diagnosis of Turner Syndrome when I was still in the womb. Given a 2% chance of survival and extreme likelihood of various disabilities and setbacks, my life and accomplishments are proof that statistics do not define us, and what can be viewed as challenges can actually push us forward. I believe we all have our own X Factor, whether it be a differing ability, a unique talent, or an uncommon story. My initial focus is to encourage people of all ages to identify, embrace, and educate themselves about their own X Factor and use it as a platform for positive change.

Q: What talent did you perform at your local competition?
A: I did a vocal performance at the Moore County competition.

Q: Do you have any previous experience within the Miss America Opportunity?
A: Previously, I have held the titles of Miss Randolph County 2019 and Miss Cabarrus County 2020-2021.

Q: What’s one fun fact about you?
A: I have five siblings and am an aunt to fourteen nieces and nephews. Family functions are never dull moments!

Q: What’s your favorite way to spend a day off when you’re not competing or volunteering?
A: Catching up on probably much-needed rest, listening to music, and completing various tasks at home. I enjoy the rare peaceful moments when there are no demands or places to rush to in order to recharge for the constant chaos and overstimulation of my schedule.

Q: What’s your favorite way to stay #MissAmericaFit?
A: As I have grown older, I have come to realize that true fitness extends far beyond the physical. It is about nurturing mental health, balance, and resilience. To me, being #MissAmericaFit means embracing a holistic approach to health. I practice this by staying mindful of what I allow into my body – whether it is food, energy, or thoughts – and by making as much physical activity as possible a priority.

Q: If you could give one piece of advice to a younger girl who looks up to you, what would it be?
A: “Appreciate every stage of your journey – even the trying ones.” I have always focused so much on what is next that I have often missed the beauty of where I was. It is natural and wonderful to dream big, look ahead, and plan for the future, but do not let anticipation overshadow the moments you are living right now. Time is a construct, but it is one we can never recoup or reclaim once it passes. Every challenge and every joy has value — together, they create the foundation for who you are becoming.

Q: Where can people support your American Heart Association efforts?
A: Visit my Spotfund page to support my efforts and learn more about heart health awareness!
