Community Service Initiative (CSI): It Takes HEART

What are some objectives you have as a titleholder? It Takes HEART is all about working with those with special needs. Whether it is through volunteering at various organizations, running my Viking Pals program at school, visiting classrooms, or working to make North Carolina Beaches more handicapped accessible, I have a passion for it all. I began working with those with disabilities in the 4th grade through a program called Danceabilities. My relationship with my Carolina Star, Ardynn and her family has inspired me to expand my work as her older sister with special needs passed away at the age of 15. Ardynn and her family have become a huge part of my life and I strive to be a big sister to her. As Miss Sampson County’s Teen, I plan to become a part of the community through visits and volunteer opportunities. Nothing would make me happier than to bring Viking Pals into high schools in Sampson County.

What are some interesting facts abut you?

Ever since I could speak, I have never been able to pronounce my /r/ sound correctly. Although I went through speech therapy, nothing worked for me. That is until my current therapist recognized the symptoms of a tongue tie. In August 2023, I had a frenectomy done and with lots of speech therapy, I am finally starting to be able to pronounce the /r/ sound successfully. As Miss Sampson County’s Teen, I want to inspire other young ladies to chase their dreams no matter the obstacle.

My family has hosted 6 exchange students from all over the world. As a host sibling, I have learned how to interact with people of all cultures and backgrounds and they have taught me to not be afraid to try new things.

I share the same name as my Carolina Star’s sister who passed away. She was Kameron Marie and I am Camryn Marie. We did not know this when we first met.

What do you enjoy doing for fun? Dance is my passion and performing brings me so much joy! When I am not at the dance studio or school, spending time with my family is a huge priority. I have 3 siblings and the time we have together is priceless.

I have also had the opportunity to participate in 4 mission trips with my Youth Group and learn so many important life skills including how to use a power saw! This summer I will travel to Honduras to assist in orphanages in that country.
